Dakar's architectural style
Dakar's colonial buildings represent an architectural heritage of rare richness, the legacy of an era when the city, a strategic and cultural crossroads, was equipped with buildings combining classical rigor and adaptation to the Atlantic climate. Facades adorned with cornices and wrought-iron balconies, high ventilated ceilings, shaded courtyards and covered galleries are all hallmarks of this style, designed to combine prestige and comfort.
Atelier KALM has designed an architectural project that draws on this historic vocabulary and reinterprets it according to today's codes. The arrangement of volumes, the generosity of openings and the use of authentic materials combine with clean lines, light structures and fluid spaces. The result is a building that bridges two eras: it retains the solemnity and memory of Dakar's colonial architecture, while offering the transparency, functionality and sobriety sought after in contemporary architecture.
Through this harmonious fusion, the building not only anchors itself in history, it extends and transforms it, offering a new chapter in Dakar's architectural identity.
